What are you doing to attract new Instructor candidates to your store each year?

Well apart from the myriad of answers you may have, PADI can now assist you with a Go Pro Careers night, whereby you invite potential IDC candidates to your Dive Centre and tell them what a great lifestyle we lead.

As an example: Dubai, Al Boom Diving decided to offer one of these events and the evening was organized and run within 5 days. They put out an advert on their Facebook site and we had over 22 people attend the evening. Not only was it a success in the numbers that turned up, it also goes to show the power of social networking sites like Facebook.

How do you arrange a Go Pro Careers Night event?

Before the event:
• Select a date and venue.
• Invite your PADI Regional Manager as a guest speaker.
• Prepare an invitation using the Go Pro Career Night toolkit, which we will supply to you.
• Send the invitation to all your Dive Club Members and student database.
• Advertise the event at your dive centre, your website, Facebook page, newsletter etc.
• Select two enthusiastic and positive PADI Instructors who love what they do and interview them during the Go Pro event. Ideally it is recommended that you should try to select:

• 1 Male and 1 female
• 1 Full time PADI Instructor who has worked in some exotic locations.
• 1 Part time PADI Instructor who has another job outside of diving.

The PADI Regional Manager will send these instructors interview questions so that they can prepare themselves before the event and know what questions to expect.

The Regional Manager will customize a PowerPoint presentation to include any store opportunities (if any) as well as a special offer on courses for the event. A photograph of each interviewed instructor will need to be supplied before the presentation.

At the event:
• Collect the names and contact details of everyone that attends.
• Supply food and drink on arrival and during the presentations.
• Create a social environment after the presentation where your staff can mingle with your customers.
• Give customers the opportunity to book onto courses at the event.

After the event:
• Send a personalized email thanking them for attending
• Call each of the attendees to follow up on potential sales leads, never underestimate the power of an actual phone call.

Several of these Go Pro Career Nights have been carried out with great success in both the Asia Pacific realm, Australia and the UK. I will obviously be available, when in country, to come and be your guest speaker and facilitator of the event. Regarding success, out of the 22 people who attended at Al Boom Diving in Dubai, 4 people signed up to the Master Scuba Diver programme and 8 expressed an interest in signing onto the next Divemaster and Instructor course.
